Talofa! Mr. Daniel Helsham provides CHL in American Samoa with media support in creating posters, placemats, flyers, banners, photos, and videos. Mr. Helsham has an AA in Liberal Arts from American Samoa Community College, BA in Mass Communications from Chaminade University, and an MS in Agricultural Communications from Texas Tech University. He have over 10 years of experience working in media production and communications field, specializing in videography – which is a passion and enjoyable skill of his.
In 2013, after completion of his multiple degrees and returning home, Mr. Helsham began working with the American Samoa Community College and has been involved with CHL since then. “I have enjoyed capturing the many interactions between the CHL staff and people in the community. It’s so cool to think that through my photos and videos people can experience the story of the struggles and triumphs of the people in American Samoa.”
Mr. Helsham is a very ambitious person and plans on pursuing a PhD in Agricultural Education. His future research will focus on agricultural communications to study the effects of media on the communication of agricultural information to various stakeholders in American Samoa. He hopes his research will help improve communication, education, and information delivery. American Samoa needs more advocates in agriculture and skills to reach the mass audience. A PhD will allow him to teach students about media production and agricultural communications.
Mr. Helsham is a hard worker and gives his best in everything he does in his professional and personal life.He likes to stay busy and find innovative ways to improve the college’s programs and services to better serve the community. When he is not working, he is an avid gamer, guitarist, and pro-wrestling fan who loves spending time with his supportive family.
