Fourth Hawaii CHL Food Systems LAC Meeting

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the CHL Center Food Systems project (CHL FS) held the fourth Local Advisory Committee (LAC) meeting in Hawaiʻi. The purpose of the meeting was to allow community partners to network, as well as to share and discuss CHL FS updates. Christina Young, CHL FS Hawaiʻi trainee, shared updates on dissertation research, and asked for suggestions for reviewers on the Hawaiʻi section of the Open Education Resource (OER) textbook on Food Systems. The CHL Data Center shared exploratory timing patterns of snack foods, fruits, and SSBs among children in Hawaii. Jeannie Butel presented social network maps developed from the previous LAC meeting activity, where LAC members plotted ongoing initiatives within the local food system using the CHL FS Hawaiʻi CLD. The ongoing activities shared common themes with many involving capacity building. Jeannie was joined by Jordan Oshiro and Noa Lincoln to share about their work combining the CHL FS Hawaiʻi CLD with the food system map developed by the Transforming Hawaiʻi Food Systems Together group, and led an activity to see how LAC members could use and learn from the new map. The next Hawai’i LAC is scheduled for February 2025, which will build upon the ideas generated at this meeting.
