On Thursday, September 28, 2023, the CHL Center Food Systems project (CHL FS) held its second Local Advisory Council (LAC) meeting in Hawai’i, led by Jeannie Butel, the CHL Hawai’i lead, and coordinated by Jordan Oshiro. The purpose of the meeting was to bring community partners together and to share and discuss updates from CHL FS. CHL FS presented updates about the Extension and Outreach pilot project, development of the Open Education Resources (OER) textbook on Pacific Food Systems, the research work of the CHL FS Hawaii doctoral student trainee, and the current version of the Hawai’i Causal Loop Diagram (CLD). LAC members also participated in discussion about CHL FS “Signature Foods,” with the objective of identifying foods of interest in Hawaii that are related to child health and could be leverage points for intervention in the food system. LAC members shared ideas about potential food fact sheets as tools for community outreach and participated in an activity aimed at determining which foods should be considered Signature Foods and how they might fit in with the Hawai’i CLD.
