On Thursday, February 22, 2024, the CHL Center Food Systems project (CHL FS) held its third Local Advisory Council (LAC) meeting in Hawai’i, led by Jeannie Butel, the CHL Hawai’i lead, and coordinated by Jordan Oshiro. The purpose of the meeting was to allow community partners to network, as well as to share and discuss updates from CHL FS. CHL presented updates about the Extension and Outreach pilot project, the Open Education Resources (OER) textbook on Pacific Food Systems, research work of CHL FS Hawaii trainee, and the CHL Regional Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) into simulation modeling. LAC members also participated in an activity to visualize ongoing initiatives within the local food system using the CHL FS Hawai’i CLD. LAC members wrote activities and their programs onto sticky notes, and selected which variables they were associated with by plotting the notes onto a poster of the Hawai’i CLD. This allowed LAC members to view how these activities relate to different areas of the food system and to find opportunities to work together. The results were shared in following the meeting. The next Hawai’i LAC is scheduled for September 2024.
