Congratulations to CHL Trainee, Dr. Pauline McFall!

We are pleased to share the news that Pauline McFall has passed the oral defense of her dissertation for the PhD in Nutritional Sciences!

Pauline is pictured here with her Doctoral Advisor, who is also Professor and Chair of the Nutritional Sciences Graduate program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dr. Rachel Novotny;  also, pictured are other members of her dissertation committee, Dr. Lynne Wilkens, Dr. Monica Esquivel, Dr. Jean Butel, and Dr. Kathryn Braun.

Pauline holds a BS degree in Health Education in Exercise and Sport Science, an MBA in Health Care Management, and an MPH, in Nutrition.  Pauline is also the Instructional Coordinator for the Land Grant program at American Samoa Community College (ASCC) and Project Director for a Resident Instruction grant there.  Pauline has taught in some capacity at the ASCC since 2007. Pauline was a teaching assistant at the Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Science department for a number of semesters.  Pauline was selected as a Children’s Healthy Living Food System grant scholarship recipient, and is currently a trainee in that program, fondly known as CHLFST (pronounced CHL FEST). ASCC also has provided Pauline a variety of other types of support, such as use of facilities and staff. We appreciate all who have supported her to get to this critical milestone.

Pauline’s dissertation is on Understanding diet of young children in American Samoa.  She will apply the findings of her dissertation work to teaching, research and outreach in American Samoa.
