CHLD Scholarship Program Expectations

Outlined below are the expectations for the scholars enrolled in the CHLD Scholarship Program. The CHLD Scholarship Program will run from July 2019 through May 2023.

  • Apply to and register with the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa
  • Complete pre, mid, and final semester evaluations each semester
  • Participate in leadership training at least once a semester
  • Participate in at least one local conference a year
  • Meet weekly with the CHLD hui
  • Meet regularly with faculty mentors each semester
  • Complete service learning rotations in the community in AY 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023 of program
  • Complete the Food Science and Human Nutrition course work
  • Complete select courses in the CHL Summer Institute
  • Complete the CITI Ethics training as outlined here
  • Complete Anthropometry Standardization training
  • Develop a Specialized Experiential Learning field experience proposal
  • Conduct a Specialized Experiential Learning field experience during summer 2022
  • Present the outcomes of a Specialized Experiential Learning field experience at a local conference during AY 2022-2023
  • Attend one national meeting on the Multicultural Scholars Program

* Beginning in 2024, the entry-level registration eligibility education requirements for dietitians will change from a baccalaureate degree to a minimum of a graduate degree. A graduate degree includes a master’s degree, practice doctorate, or doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.Dor, D.Sc.) All other entry-level dietitian registration eligibility requirements remain the same. CHLD will do its best to advise students in this process.
** Funding for CHLD is scheduled to end in May 2023. The academic plan outlined for 2023 – 2024 will not be under CHLD but is provided as a suggestion. 
*** The Special Experiential Learning in Childhood Obesity Prevention will satisfy the 100 hour Field Experience requirement for FSHN 492: Field Experience.
