Joining the CHL Food Systems Graduate Training Program (CHL FST) comes with a number of benefits. This unique Training Program will assist you with becoming future leaders in food system and nutrition resiliency and security for health in the US Affiliated Pacific.
All graduate students accepted into the CHL FST will:
- Receive a graduate assistantship that includes a full tuition waiver to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
- Work in integral aspects of the CHL Center Food Systems Program which may include working in the Data Center to assist with data collection and analysis, in the Education Center to assist with development of Open Educational Resources in Food Systems, in the Extension Center to assist with implementation of pilot programs in food systems across the US Affiliated Pacific, or in the Administrative Center to assist with various institutional processes.
- Receive up to $12,000 to complete thesis/dissertation research that examines components of the CHL Food Systems model such as leadership and governance, distribution and type of food outlets, food cost and food procurement; food and nutrition policies; food security of households with children; child diet, physical activity, and body size; chronic disease risk factors in the jurisdiction they represent.
- Be advised by a collaborator from the CHL Food Systems Program.
- Receive training in online instruction and teach one course in the CHL Summer Institute.
- Contribute to the development of an Open Education Resource (OER) Food Systems textbook.
- Develop skills in research, instruction, extension, diversity, equity, inclusion, culturally based leadership, resiliency, indigeneity, etc.
- Join a program that is committed to facilitating and supporting their academic, professional, social, and health success.
