Outlined below are the expectations for the graduate students enrolled in the CHL Food Systems Training Program (CHL FST). CHL FST will run from August 2022 through July 2026.
- Apply to and be enrolled at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program (MS or PhD) by August 2022; or be a student in good standing at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program (MS or PhD) by August 2022
- Maintain good academic standing throughout the duration of their University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program (MS or PhD) with an expected graduation no later than May 2026
- Gain professional experience through serving as a Graduate Assistant (20 hours of work per week) for the CHL Food Systems Program
- Participate weekly in the CHL FST seminar
- Complete pre, mid, and post semester evaluations each semester
- Complete post graduation evaluations annually for up to 3 years following completion of the degree.
- Teach one course in the CHL Summer Institute
- Contribute to the development of an Open Educational Resource Textbook for Food Systems
- Mentor undergraduate student(s)
- Meet regularly with their assigned advisor from the CHL FST each semester to develop their thesis/dissertation research
- Successfully propose to conduct their thesis/dissertation on a topic related to the CHL Food Systems Program
- Successfully defend their thesis/dissertation on a topic related to the CHL Food Systems Program no later than May 2026
- Provide outreach related to their thesis/dissertation topic to the jurisdiction (Alaska, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, or Hawaiʻi) they are from or have demonstrated a commitment to serve
